If you are an educator in Indiana, or are a supporter of good schools and quality teachers, you should know what Mitch Daniels and Tony Bennett are trying to do!


ISTA President recently sent out an email. This email covered the topics of a roundtable discussion. After attending the meeting, Nate Schnellenberger believed that the groundwork was being laid for the following changes to take place:

*Elimination of tenure and seniority, meaning that every teacher would only be issued a one-year license

*Evaluation of teachers by student test scores; Pay based on those evaluations

*School choice

*Teacher licensure retention tied to passing a test

*Allowing multiple and non-traditional paths to become a licensed educator

*Elimination of collective bargaining in Indiana.

Believe these changes to be absurd and ridiculous.

Believe teachers should be evaluated based on what they do in the classroom, not on how well their students do on a flawed standardized test.

Believe teachers have the right to be a part of a union, bargain for better healthcare and salary instead of having to accept whatever comes their way.

Believe, like, that a teacher no matter how experienced, should NOT have to apply every year for a license.
