This is one of the earliest consumer uses of expanded polystyrene you'll find. (The process was being developed in the late 1940s.) Many lightweight Christmas ornaments of this material began to appear in the 1950s, but after this example. Amazingly intact for something 75 years old, this jar originally held hard candies. The bottom is a tapered clear glass just with a ribbon (original) draped around it, and the lid is a polystyrene snowman head with sparkles all over his hat. Lovingly cared for all these years. $18.
