**Who am I?**
Hello! My name is Chris. I am 34 years old male (he/him) and live in Fishers Indiana. I attended Purdue University graduating in 2014 with my degree in Math Education and I have been teaching & tutoring high school & college math professionally for 12 years now. I tutored full-time at a college preparatory school in Colorado for 5 years, specializing in courses like AP Calc A/B and AP Stats.
I have a website via "chris math tutor". Due to craisglist rules I cannot post the link but you can search for it. I accept payments online and you can schedule with me via that site if you would like, or just contact me here!
I strive as a teacher to help students not just get the problems done, but also understand at a core level what they are doing (and why they are doing it!) I also love to help students boost their confidence and feel more at ease around math, even when it's a struggle. I love math and always hope some of that can rub off on my students!
**What am I offering for AP Calc A/B**
If you are looking for a high quality, one-on-one teacher for your student in AP Calc A/B (equivalent to a first semester calculus class in college), look no further! I have years of experience in this curriculum and will walk your student through each unit, preparing them for the AP test in the spring. As this is one-on-one and individualized, the pricing, schedule, and class structure will depend on the student's & family's needs and wants.
I would anticipate meeting with the student 2-4 times per week for digital class during the school day, throughout the school year (with breaks determined by teacher & family together). The classes are held digitally and could range from 60 to 120 minutes. Homework would be assigned, as with any course, and similarly to any class, the students work outside of class is a large determiner of performance. Tests will be given throughout the school year not so much to assign grades but to evaluate and make sure the student is prepared for the AP Exam in the spring.
As your student's teacher/tutor, I would be in consistent communicate with you, the guardian, regarding their performance, indicators of how things are going, and any flags, green or red, that indicate changes need to be made. Depending on how things are going, we can always add additional "tutoring" sessions alongside the class sessions, change the schedule to accommodate needs, etc.
Payment is made throughout the school year on a bi-monthly basis, and it is an at-will service, if either party deems it necessary to end the arrangement. All cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance with the exception of sickness, in which case cancellation fees are waived for the first few occurrences. In the event that I must cancel, a make-up class will be scheduled when convenient for the student.
**What about other math?**
While the curriculum is harder to nail down for other courses, please contact me if you're interested in a course other than AP Calc A/B and we can see what we can do (or if you already have a curriculum and just need the teacher)!
**Prerequisites**
Your student should have accomplished math courses equivalent to algebra 2, geometry, and trigonometry (often included in algebra 2). AP-Calc A/B is a *fast* course, so if your student has taken the honors levels of those courses, that often bodes well, but isn't exactly necessary.
**Next steps?**
I offer tutoring sessions through Zoom. I utilize a writing/drawing pad and between digital whiteboards, screensharing, PDFs, etc, the virtual experience is often just as good, if not better in some ways, than the in-person tutoring experience.
The cost is variable, but my general rate for AP courses is $75 per hour for tutoring and $65 for non-AP. Teaching comes with additional planning work but in the average case, this is billed fairly infrequently as the AP Calc A/B curriculum is quite set already by the AP board. So depending on your students' specific needs, the amount of hours both in session and also planning billable could be different, but hopefully that can help you estimate. For a very high-mathmatically-achieving self-starter student, we could potentially meet only once per week for 2 hours. A more standard setup would be twice per week for 2 hours or 3-4 times per week for 60/75/90 minutes.
Please reach out via e-mail or the craigslist chat if you are interested! A short phone consultation to see if I'm a good fit for your student is free. My availability is limited and will be offered on a first-come first-serve basis. I look forward to hearing from you!
