Type B Wood Key from British Vox Continental - See Photos
Price is $50 for one key
Made By Herrburger Brooks Ltd., Long Eaton, Nottingham
These wood Vox organ keys are nearly impossible to find for sale.
Most keys are available except for the #12 lowest B note and the highest #49 C note. If you need the #12 B note, a B note from an upper octave should fit.
Please be aware that there are two variations in the British Continental wooden keys. The version you have may depend on which Vox factory assembled the organ.
The keys offered here are the Type B shown in the half of the third photo where the key is 9 7/16" measuring from the end of the key top to the back edge of the black overlay as shown in the second photo. If the serial number on your British Continental begins with BD, chances are your organ has the Type A keys and these will not fit although there may be exceptions. Therefore, it is very important to carefully measure the keys on your British Continental before buying and compare your measurements to the last 2 photos to make sure you are purchasing the correct style key. Here is more information.
How to tell the wood key type on your British Vox single Continental:
1. Remove the #1 lowest C key. If it is stamped Herrburger Brooks Ltd., Long Eaton, Nottingham in green capital letters on the key shaft, it is a Type B key. But also measure to confirm that it matches the Type B in the drawing in the third photo.
2. If you see a paper label in the area of the lowest C key that says B.P.A. Ltd., LLANELLY then you have a Type A key and the ones in this ad will not fit.
In addition, since these keys were handmade, they may not be and are not guaranteed to be a drop-in fit for your British Continental. Minor adjustment by an experienced piano or organ technician may be needed if you do not have these skills.
